“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

- Margaret Mead.

Growing up, many of us were reassured by well-meaning adults that life would get better as we got older. And eventually, it did. But those words didn’t ease the pain or isolation we experienced in the moment.

At Trefoil Academy, we aim to provide the sanctuary we wished had been available to us back then.

A few hours to a week may seem like an inconsequential length of time. For someone who feels like they never belong, or who is relentlessly bullied for having different interests, a few hours—or a week—in a supportive community can be a lifeline. Every minute spent in a loving, accepting space is a reminder that they don’t have to choose between being true to themselves and finding community. It’s a reminder that they’re not alone.

Over the years, I’ve received thousand stories from people whose lives have been transformed by this labor of love—and those are just the stories that have been shared. Trefoil Academy has made a meaningful difference in more than a thousand lives, and for many, it’s the first place they’ve ever felt truly accepted.

Our mission is built on two core beliefs:

  1. Those who need these experiences the most often face the greatest barriers. These barriers aren’t limited to tuition; they can also include things like supplies or transportation.

  2. Now more than ever, young people need a safe space to explore their passions without fear of judgment or negativity.

In the fall of 2024, we are beginning to work on the launch of Trefoil Academy Adventure Guild (TAAG), a nonprofit dedicated to the power of transformative experiences through adventure. Our mission is driven by three key objectives: support, outreach, and community.

As we continue to ignite passions and champion exploration, we remain steadfast in our goal to change lives—one adventure at a time. Not all heroes wear capes. Sometimes, they wear a purple “Trefoil Academy” shirt.

Objective #1: Support

The guild is devoted to breaking financial barriers by raising scholarship funds for all ages seeking exploration and self-discovery.

Beyond just funding, we provide resources, allowing families in need to anonymously borrow equipment, easing financial stress and prioritizing the experience.

Central to this mission is the Room of Requirement, a curated space of essential supplies that ensures all adventurers are prepared for their journey, empowering each camper's next chapter of exploration.

Objective #2: Outreach

We champion community outreach with an emphasis on anti-bullying initiatives. We teach that actions have consequences, and that inaction is an action. To stand by when you see someone else being bullied as bad as bullying another individual.

Objective #3: Community

Through these efforts, the guild fosters bonds that stretch beyond the immediate experience. By maintaining strong connections with alumni, we weave a rich tapestry of shared stories and adventures, creating a powerful network of support.
Together, we all echo the spirit of camaraderie, reminding us all that the adventure is not just about the destination but the relationships forged along the way.
